Grant/Manage Capabilities

If the CERF System Administrator has given you the capability to “Grant Capabilities” you will be able to grant other CERF users the capability to create Workgroups and to create and manage vocabularies. Your CERF Administrator will probably not grant more than one user the capability to “Grant Capabilities.” If you have this capability, you will see the “Manage Capilities” in the Sessions menu.

  • Select the new menu item, “Manage Capabilites,” from the Sessions menu.
  • In the Manage Capabilities dialog select a Capability from the list of Capabilities in the left pane and select the user to whom you are granting this privilege from the drop-down list of users.
  • Click on Grant Capability. Repeat this process to grant specific capabilities to users

Here is a table summary of the capabilities CERF provides:

Name Description
Create Controlled Vocabulary Adds the “manage vocabularies” option to the user’s “tools” menu and allows them to create new vocabularies.
Manage Capabilities Allows the user to choose other users and grant capabilities to them including “manage capabilities”. (initally only the admin has the “manage capabilities” capability.
Edit Controlled Vocabulary Adds the “manage vocabularies” option to the user’s “tools” menu but ONLY allows them to edit vocabularies, not create new ones.
Edit User Capabilities Allows the user to choose other users and grant capabilities to them EXCEPT “manage capabilities”.
Create Workgroup Adds the “new workgroup” option to the user’s session > manage workgroup menu allowing them to create new workgroups.
Manage Controlled Documents Allows a user to create and edit controlled documents and view all the controlled documents on the server.
