Cut and Paste (Move)

You can move a resource within a Flexible Notebook (or within a File Cabinet) by dragging and dropping it from one location to another within the same collection or using the Edit > Cut on the right-click menu. If you are moving a resource within a Notebook, make sure that you are moving the Entry, not just the resource.

Rules for Move (Cut/Paste):

  • Resources cannot be moved within a Rigid Notebook
  • You will not be permitted to move a resource that is final or signed.
  • You can not move a resource from one collection to another (you can paste it)
  • If there is a printed copy of the collection, the printed copy will be invalidated after you move a resource belonging to the collection.
  • You cannot move a Placeholder in a Flexible Notebook.

The default action for drag and drop within a collection is cut and paste (move). If you want to use drag and drop to create a relation, a new resource, link, or version within the same collection, then you must hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or Option key (Mac) while dragging or simply use the right-click menu Copy/Paste action.

Note that if you drag a resource to a different Notebook or File Cabinet, you will only have the choice to paste it as a relation or as a new resource, link, or version (depending on your role). This action will not move the resource from one Notebook (or File Cabinet) to another.
