CERF has a Mind Map component that will launch a Mind Mapping application if you have one installed (such as FreePlane, a free download). The text in the nodes can be found in a full-text search in CERF, and the mind-map preview will be displayed when you print the Notebook Page. Note that if you do not have mind-mapping software installed on your computer, you can open the blank.mm file with a text editor. Mind Maps allow you to present information as graphical, branching documents. Information is stored in text boxes (“nodes”) that are connected together with lines.
- Click on the New Entry button in the Notebook Entry toolbar and select “Mind Map”. Note: If you do not have Mind Mapping software installed on your computer, you will be asked in what application you wish to use to open the file. You can choose to use a text-editor if you do not have the proper software available.
- The Mind Mapping software will open (if available on your system) and you can add nodes and relationships at different levels.
When you are satisfied with the mind-map, click on Save and then close the application. Do not use “Save As”. Then within CERF, click on Save in the Entry. A preview of the mind map will be displayed inline. You will be able to check out the Mind Map for editing if the application is installed on your system.

Users have the ability to create a custom Mind Map entry to use as the default new Mind Map entry in your Notebook page. Please visit Custom Notebook Entries page for further information on how to install custom entries.
